6.5 mm Creedmoor LRP
127 Grain Barnes LRX
This load was developed on our Savage Model 12 Target rifle. This rifle has a 26" 1:8 twist barrel. This rifle produces more velocity than many others. We are using Alpha large primer brass. We choose large primers for our hunting ammunition to help ensure reliable ignition in cold weather often associated with hunting. Barnes is regarded as the industry leader in lead free hunting bullets and we are happy to be partnering with them to provide lead free hunting ammunition for hunters in areas where it is required or for hunters who simply choose to go lead free. This load uses Norma URP powder, which is very similar to H4350 burn rate. We have found the Norma powder to be very user friendly and produces consistently low ES and SD numbers. As with any slow burning rifle powder, every inch of barrel makes a difference. The slower the powder, the larger the gap as is evident by the two different barrel lengths listed. Barnes recommends an 8 twist or faster for proper stabilization. This 8 twist seems to be the industry standard for most 6.5 bullets. The LRX line of bullets is slightly softer than the TSX line of bullets, so they will open better at extended ranges when the velocity drops off. At 5,000 feet elevation, the lower impact velocity requirement should make this round viable out to about 900 yards. Reduce the yardage by 100-150 yards if you are closer to sea level.
We recommend this bullet for general big game hunting for antelope, deer, elk, moose, black bear, hogs and similar out to 600-850 yards depending on your elevation. The LRX is known for deep, straight line penetration and exit holes. The LRX is currently the most streamlined all copper bullet in our line up.
